Rebecca Black
Who would be surprised to know that Rebecca Black was the number one rising search of 2011? Not a whole lot of people. Rebecca took the world by storm early this year when her song "Friday" came out and took the world by storm.
The song became the most disliked video on youtube in a matter of weeks and showed just how long it takes for a viral video to take off.
Numerous parodies made their way to the web and gained popularity but none more then the original.
Rebecca is still recording music and trying to actually become a musician, but I have a fairly strong idea that no one will take any of her music seriously after the bombshell that "Friday" became

Siri Is At It Again!
Know Your Meme
With the release of the new iPhone 4S and it's new feature "Siri" videos have been popping up left and right on the web. Here is another hilarious video showing just what Siri is becoming famous for; doing things no one would ever expect. In this video we see Siri recite the lyrics to Hypnotize by Notorious B.I.G. With flow like that maybe even Siri has a spot in today's music scene.
Personally I can't get enough of these types of videos right now. Although I'm sure that will change soon, right now its fresh and funny. People are getting Siri to do all sorts of things from reciting song lyrics to having conversations with itself. Not to mention the stances Siri has on some hot-button issues right now, but I'm not about to talk about those right now. Instead go out and get yourself an iPhone 4S, you won't regret it.

Mashup
Know Your Meme
Another internet mashup video has hit the web and this one is taking clips from some of the greatest movies and songs in recent history. Starting out with the soundtrack from Inception the artist was able to capture my attention as Inception was one of the standout movies in the passed couple years. Then he draws from numerous other influences and brings in music from Snoop Dogg and Jimi Hendrix. This video is definitely something unexpected even during the age of music we are currently experiencing.
Lots of people are trying to make a name for themselves in the music industry and it usually only takes a few hit songs to do so. This guy is showing that he has the ability to do just that in the coming years.

Another Crazy Video
Know Your Meme
Personally I love when people come out with videos that are original and interesting to watch. This video is able to do it again. Using the "Droste Effect" this guy made a video that boggles the mind. After watching this entire video I simply needed to watch it again just to see all the crazy effects that he did.
This is basically a music video to an instrumental song that in itself is catchy. Combine that with the visuals and you have what many people would call a "Mindf**k."
My favorite part of the video occurs around the 3 minute mark when the song goes into a bit of a break. You have to watch the video to understand completely as I do not want to ruin the moment however I think this song and video should be making their rounds about the web.

A View of Earth from Above
A group of astronauts created this video by putting together a time lapse of the pictures they took while circling the earth from space. It shows everyone who isn't able to afford a trip to space what our planet actually looks like from afar.
Videos like this one always seem to interest me because of the mystique that our galaxy holds for me. This videos holds me true to that statement because of how beautifully it is done. The chance for people to get a view of our planet from above the ground doesn't come around all that often so when videos like this pop up everyone should check it out. I'm looking forward to videos like these one being done for many other planets which hopefully someday includes Mars.

Pictaculous - A Color Palette Generator (courtesy of MailChimp)
This is the logo that is used for the group that I am a part of. I choose to do it this for my website because it will be a lot easier for me to work on a project that I have an interest in creating.

Mama Economy! Make Me Understand It!
The Economy Explained in Song
With the crazy success "Chocolate Rain" experienced Tay Zonday has now found his calling in creating songs that entertain his huge web audience. He does so again here with a song fully explaining the current economic crisis. It's a song that, in all seriousness, should be shown in every economics class around the nation.
Although some parts seemed to be rushed and now fully thought out I give him the benefit of the doubt on this song. It's a crash course on why the economy is doing so poorly in the United States. I'm not sure if it is the way my generation has grown up but I feel as though I have just learned more about our economic settings during this brief four minute video then I have in almost two years of economic lectures and exams.

Kids React
Of all the video channels on Youtube the one that I have currently had an obsession with is the "Kids React" channel. In it they have young kids watch current viral videos and see what their thoughts are surrounding the topics in the videos. The kids usually have very candid responses which is what makes most of the videos funny.
In this video they discuss the Dubstep dance video involving the popular song "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People. Most of the kids have no idea what Dubstep is so seeing their reactions to the music is humorous.
They also do many other viral videos including "Friday" by Rebecca Black and some of the Epic Meal Time videos.

Apple Comes Out With Steve Jobs 2
Steve Jobs 2
Following the passing of Steve Jobs, the satirical newspaper "The Onion" released a video announcing that Apple would be coming out with a new and improved Steve Jobs 2. This Jobs would have a white turtleneck and better jeans among other things.
Although many people may find this offensive in some shape or form I feel as though this video is their salute to the man behind many of today's biggest gadgets. The video pokes fun at many of the things that were humorous about Steve Jobs' appearance as well as some of the decisions Apple would make involving their iPods and such (i.e. the white shirt upgrade).
Something that topped off the video for me was the fact that they included the Bill Gates XE even though he is not even dead yet. I found it to be sort of a punch at Bill Gates saying that even though he is still alive he hasn't had a significant force in the market so he is basically dead, therefore the "upgrade" is in need.

Another Step in the Facebook World
Future Facebook Changes
The future of Facebook is changing yet again. This time the update is going to be dramatic. With the addition of a "timeline," Facebook hopes to put everyone's life on the web, including the music and movies they are currently listening to. Mark Zuckerburg believes that the last five years have been about getting people on to Facebook and now he wants to revolutionize social networking with the integration of many music and movie companies.
I look at this future change to the website as something good. Although many people complain about the constant changes to the website I see them as something good. It means our baby is growing up. Facebook has been the top dog in the social networking business for quite some time now and aside from a few minor upgrades nothing on the site has changed all the much. This "timeline" will allow us to become more aware of different music around us, such as indie groups or other genres of music, as well as movies that we may otherwise never have heard of.

#LikeABoss
Know Your Meme: Like A Boss
Although it has been almost two years since the Lonely Island released their "Like A Boss" single, it is still one of the biggest memes on twitter. People are constantly showing their success in activities with the the hashtag saying of "#LikeABoss."
Although Lonely Island made the saying "Like A Boss" popular in 2009, people were already searching it on the web due to the Slim Thug song of the same name. That is one of the interesting things about this group. They are able make consistently funny parody videos for popular songs of the past.
Many people probably wonder how the Lonely Island got so famous so quickly. Well, two members of the group Akiva and Jorma are writers for Saturday Night Live and Andy is an actor on the show. They do the Digital Shorts for the program and had large success with one of their first hits, "Dick in a Box." From then on the Digital Shorts have become the standout section of the program and for me personally are the only part that I even enjoy watching. Unless Justin Timberlake in on the show, then its pure hilarity from beginning to end (the guy is a comedy king).
Being a fellow Lonely Island fanatic I find this internet meme to be quite humorous. The group has numerous viral videos including "Jizz in My Pants", "I'm on a Boat" and "Jack Sparrow." Hopefully they can continue down the road they are on and keep entertaining us with their genius take on the music business.
